Department of Personnel Management

Industrial Relations Camp
An Industrial Relations Camp for the class of 2006-08 was held at Bhilai Steel Plant, Rourkela during 3-13 March 2007 under the leadership of Prof S R Shauq, Dr. Somendu Biswas and Mohit Spring. In the pre-lunch sessions, the students interacted with the practising managers of the plant while they visited the shop-floor and conducted a socio-economic survey in workers’ colony during the afternoon sessions.

Campus Placement
Breaking all previous records, 63 students of the class of 2005-07 got placed in 21 companies. Compensation package ranged from the lowest Rs 2.5 lakhs to the highest Rs 6.80 lakhs with an average offer of Rs. 4.00 lakh per annum. Students were placed in Tata Consultancy Services, GMR, Tech Mahindra, M&M, ICICI Pru, Reliance Retail, Hindalco, ITC, Taj Hotel, Reliance Energy, Raymonds, Essar Steel, VSNL, Pantaloon, ACC, Satyam, Visa Steel, Reliance Infocomm, NTPC, Tata Motors (Telcon), and JK Group.
Summer Placement
Class of 2006-08 have received summer placement offers from over 25 companies: HDFC standard Life, Tata Steel, Ushacomm, Max Healthcare, Hindalco, NTPC, SAIL, BHEL, VSNL, ITC, ALSTOM, TCS, Bluesatar, HUTECH, Mafoi, L&T, Genpact, ACC, Standard Chartered, Airtel, Tata Motors, MMTC, Cadbury, Indian Oil Corporation etc.

Department of Rural Development

Educational Tour
Class of 2005-07 went on a 15-day educational tour (9-23 December 2006) to feel the socio-economic nerves of the nation. The class was divided into three groups who visited north, south and western parts of the country. During the educational tour, the students visited a number of civil society organizations, distinct field projects and interacted with the stakeholders and village communities. The educational tour provided the students with an opportunity to develop their insight, self-confidence, team spirit and learning through mutual sharing at the grass roots level.

Seminars and workshops
A seminar on National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme was held on 1 February 2007. Mr A K Singh of SPAR, Ranchi was the resource person for the seminar.
A three-day workshop on Disaster Management was held on 26-28 February 2007. Resource person for the workshop was Mr R John Suresh Kumar, Group Facilitator, Synodical Board of Social Service, Church of North India, New Delhi.

Campus Placement
The department achieved 100 percent placement for the class of 2005-07 with significantly high compensation packages in merely 9 days in February 2007. Altogether 21 organizations participated in the campus placement and offered 103 jobs while 70 students were finally selected. The originations that came for campus selection included NDPL, Udyogini, Aid-et-Action, FES, CCF, World Vision India, KNNA, Srijan, Unnati, Essel Mining Industries, ASA, Basix, PGEI, Aravali, FSS etc.


Department of Information Management

Campus placement
Altogether 51 students of the Class of 2005-07 got employment through campus placement. The companies that came for campus placement included IFB, Lason India, Vati consulting, Newzen Software Technology Ltd., Bridging Talents, Satyam computer Services Ltd., Web Information Technologies –USA, Basix, United Bank of India, ICICI Pru, Life Development Foundation, and Life Business Project Pvt Ltd. Reliance General Insurance.

Summer Placement
Class of 2006-08 have been placed in the following companies for summer internship: Airport Authority of India Ltd., Bombay Rayons, Central Coalfields Ltd., HCL-BPO, HCL Infosystems Ltd., HCL Technologies Ltd., HDFC Standard Life, HPL India Ltd., HP Invent, ING Vyasa, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., J K Tyres, Millipore India Ltd., MTI-SAIL, RDCIS-SAIL, Tata Motors Ltd., TISCO, Satyam Computers, and Usha Martin Industries Ltd.

Department of Marketing & Finance

Workshop / Training
The department conducted a one day workshop cum training on Employee Awareness and Motivation for the junior level officers and promotees of United Bank of India, Jharkhand and Bihar Circle on February 11, 2007. Dr. Fr.Benjamin Lakra, s.j, Assistant Director, XISS welcomed the participants. Mr. A S Bhattacharya, General Manager (Resourses Management) and Mr. S P Sinha (Chief Regional Manager) Jharkhand & Bihar Circle chaired the session. The Workshop was conducted by Prof.Aseem Kandulna who spoke on Personality Development. Prof. Bhaskar Bhowani deliberated on Retail Banking while Prof. Amar Tigga spoke on Customer Service. Prof. Anmol R Bodra discussed Motivation and Behavioural Aspects.

Campus Placement
Within a span of just two years since its inception, the department witnessed a large turnout of companies to the campus for selection of students for suitable positions in Marketing, Finance and Operations areas. Some of the major recruiters were Raymonds, Satyam, Pantaloons, Equations Marketing Consultants, Reliance Telecom, Reliance Infocom, Ajiwika Micro Finance, UTI-Bank, IDBI-Bank, HDFC-Bank, United Bank of India, HSBC Bank, ICICI Bank etc. It was also very encouraging to hear the Company Executives lauding the performance of the graduating students in the interviews. As per the confirmations received till now, 97 students have already been placed. With the placements still on a few more companies are expected to turn up and in the final count, 80 % of the outgoing students would be gainfully placed this year.

The class of 2006-08 have received summer placement offers from Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Godrej and Boyce, NTPC, IPCL, ESSAR, ONGC, Emerald Energy : Dubai: UAE, TCS, Airtel, ICICI Bank, Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Narnolia Securities, Taj Hotels and The Oberoi Group among others.

Department of Management Development

Certificate Course in Management
The Department of Management Development conducted a Certificate Course in Management from September 2006 to March 2007 in which 26 persons participated. Besides industrial exposure through short term internship, project work and industrial visits, the participants were provided with a holistic theoretical knowledge pertaining to human resource management, leadership, accounting, financial management, communication etc.

Development Resource Centre (DRC)
Development Resource Centre (DRC), a Training and Capacity Building wing of Xavier Institute of Social Service organized following training programmes and workshops for the benefit of various stakeholders during January-June 2007:
Training programme on resource mobilization and conflict resolution (8-12 January 2007 & 15-19 January 2007).
Refresher training on micro-planning (21-24 January 2007).
Workshop on NRHM and RCH II (8-9 February 2007)
Training on gender, reproductive health and legal issues (22-25 February 2007).
Workshop on right-based perspective on reproductive health (9-10 March 2007)
Annual review workshop (24-25 March 2007).
Second follow-up training on reproductive health (16-20 April 2007).
