Faculty Corner

Fr. (Dr.) Alex Ekka, Professor and Head, Department of Research and Planning, visited University of Antwerp in connection with a research collaboration project during April – June 2006. His visit has strengthened the alliance between XISS and Antwerp University.

Dr Anirudh Prasad, Professor & Head, Department of Research & Publications delivered special lectures at Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics, Pune (2 October 2006), Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative and Management on 2 October 2006), Magadh Mahila College, Patna ( May 2006), L N Mishra Institute of Social Change & Economic Growth, Patna (13 June 2006), and A N Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna (13-15 July 2006). He spoke on an array of subjects such as Panchayati Raj Institutions, Corporate Governance, Social Development in Gandhian Perspective etc.

Dr Himadri Sinha, Professor, Department of Rural Development, presented a paper on ‘Copious NTFP Deprived Collectors: Exploring the Trade Offs between Collective and Private Domain’ at the 11th Biennial Conference of ASCP held at Bali (Indonesia) (June 20-23, 2006). Dr Sinaha had received a grant from Ford Foundation for conducting research for the paper.
S N Singh, Head, Department of Information Management, presented a paper in a seminar on Algorithms and Computer Science at Ranchi Women’s College on 4 April 2006. He also delivered a special lecture in a capacity building workshop organized by Employees’ Provident Fund Organization, Ranchi on 1 June 2006. He delivered a special lecture during an orientation programme of young faculty members at Academic Staff College, Ranchi on 26-27 November 2006.

Dr Soumendu Biswas of the Department of Personnel Management obtained Ph D degree in October 2006 from the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He completed his doctoral thesis on ‘Organizational Culture and Psychological Climate as Predictors of Employee Performance and Organizational Effectiveness’ under the supervision of Dr Vijai N Giri and Dr Kailash B L Srivastava.

Dr Srirang K Jha of the Department of Personnel Management and Bhaskar Bhowani of the Department of Marketing & Finance attended an International Workshop on Case Teaching and Case Writing at Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (6-11 November 2006) under the Faculty Development Programme sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education.
Dr Ratnesh Chaturvedi of the Department of Marketing & Finance and Kumar Mohit Spring of the Department of Personnel Management participated in the Management Teachers’ Programme on ‘New Venture Planning’ (4-9 December 2006) organized by Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow & Strategic Management Forum at IIM Lucknow Campus.

Dr Soumendu Biswas & Dr Srirang Jha of the Department of Personnel Management participated in a National Workshop on Labour Jurisprudence: Emerging Scenario (2-3 December 2006) organized by Indian Institute of Coal Management, Ranchi.

A research paper on ‘All to all Broadcast on OTIS-Ring’ by Kenny Thomas Lucas of the Department of Information Management has been accepted for IASTED International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing and Systems at University of Texas, Dallas, USA. His paper will be published by ACTA Press, Canada.

Anant Kumar of the Department of Rural Development presented a paper on ‘Women’s Self-Help Groups and Role of Caste and Class in Equitable Health Access’ in the 4th Biennial International Conference on Creating Healthy Societies through Inclusion and Equity (11-13 September, 2006) at Adelaide, Australia. He presented another paper on ‘Self-Help Groups and their Role in Women’s Health and Empowerment’ in the 11th World Congress on Public Health and 8th Brazilian Congress on Collective Health, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (21-25 August 2006). He also participated in the NBCC International Global Mental Health Congress at New Delhi, India (23-24 October 2006). He also participated in the training programme on “Strategic Communication” organised by Population Foundation of India (PFI) and Spitfire Strategies, USA, supported by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
