XISS Annual Fest: Panache 2007

Students and faculty went for a three-day chill out on the campus just before the onset of summers in the middle of cool February. Well, the occasion was first ever cultural festival of XISS –Panache 2007 during 15-17 February 2007. The campus rejuvenated with a number of innovative programmes and events such as face painting, T-shirt painting, ad-mad-show, crossword, business dumb charade, rangoli etc. Students of other institutes and colleges of Ranchi participated in various contests with matching enthusiasm.

Mr Adish Ekka, CRPF Commandant, Ranchi inaugurated the festival by lighting the traditional lamp in a colourful function on 15 February 2007. In his inaugural address, Mr Adish urged the youth to be more responsive to the social needs. He observed that a holistic education makes one competent to serve the society in most fruitful and creative manner. Speaking on the occasion, XISS Director Fr Beni Ekka said that the fest provides a unique opportunity for the students to showcase their talents in an integrated manner. Vidya performed a classical dance item in the inaugural function. The students also presented a folkdance on the occasion. Fest coordinator Mr Sajeet Lakra presented mementos to the chief guest, director and assistant director on the occasion. Divya Samuel conducted the inaugural function.

Extempore, flower show, collage, quiz and song competition (solo and duet) were held on the first day of the festival. In the extempore, Manjita Osta, Sharpee Tekriwal and Nilendri Biswas won first, second and third prizes respectively. Cap. G Kurian and Prof Anmol Bodra were on the panel of judges. The programme was anchored by Rajni Sinha. Naman Sinha & Vivek Saurabh (NIFFT) won the first prize in quiz. Ankur and Vishal (NIFFT) were the runners up in the quiz which conducted by Vinay Singh of AMS Careers. Amrit Pal Singh coordinated the quiz programme. In collage, Manisha Kindo (XISS), Payal Panchi (BIT, Mesra) and Shruta Singh (XISS) won first, second and third prize respectively. Panel of judges for collage comprised of Prof S R Shauq and Prof Abha Ekka. Collage was coordinated by Tanvi. Divya Samuel stood first, Shweta Singh second and Shruti third in the flower show contest that was judged by Ms Alka Lakra. Flower show was coordinated by Neelam Toppo. In the solo singing contest, Varsha Srivastava stood first while Raj Kumar and Mainak Chaterjee came second and third respectively. Prof S R Shauq and Sujan Pandit served the panel of judges for the singing competition.

On the second day of Panache 2007, face painting, business dumb charade, ad mad show, crossword, laughter show, free style dance and War of Dj’s were held. Amit Lama and Manjita Osta (XISS) won first and second prize respectively while Shantanu Roy (ICFAI) stood third in the face painting contest. Prof S R Shauq and Mr Bashir Ahmad were the judges for this event. Dawn Sangama coordinated the face-painting contest. In the business dumb charade, Ruma Kunar & Soni Sharma stood first while Vikram Anand & Biplab Gupta came second and Anil Kumar Singh bagged the third prize. Sunaina Garodia coordinated the business dumb charade. In the crossword event, Kavita stood first while Ankur and Sunaina won second prize. Wilson David was the programme coordinator for crossword.

The team of Anisha, Manjita and Farzana (XISS) won first prize in Ad Mad Show while Sumit and Akashdeep (BIT, Mesra) won second prize and Pranjal Shukla (XISS) won third prize in the event. The panel of judges for this event comprised of Prof Rohit Vishal Kumar and Prof Pinaki Ghosh. The laughter show was appreciated overwhelmingly. Akashdeep (BIT, Mesra), Amit Kumar (XISS) and Neeraj Kumar (XISS) won first, second and third prize respectively in the laughter show. Prof Mohit Spring and Prof Harpreet Singh were the judges for this event. In the solo dance event, Vidya, Popa Dasgupta and Manjita won first, second and third prize while in group dance event Monalisa & group, Rachita Sharma & group and Kunjit Kaur & group won the first, second and third prizes. Ms Amrita Gupta was the judge for the event.

T-shirt painting, dumb charade, debate, faculty games, rangoli, antyakshari and Mr and Miss Panache 2007 were the fascinating events on the third and final day of Panache 2007. In the T-shirt painting contest, Agnesia Beck & Rensu Joana Minz (XISS) won the first prize while Manjita Osta & Farzana Kausar (XISS) stood second and Amrita Rao and Sujit Kumar (ICFAI) came third. Mr Basheer Ahmed was the judge for the event. In the dumb charade, Kiran Kumari & Shipra won first prize while Snigdha & Anita Jigga won second prize. The event was anchored by Anisha and George. Manjita Osta was declared the best speaker and Smriti Sudha runner-up in the debate competition. The panel of judges comprised of Dr Srirang Jha, Prof Abha Ekka and Mr Leo. The event was anchored by Farzana Kausar and Wilson.

In the Rangoli competition, Shivangi & Rashmi (BIT, Mesra) stood first while Sheela & Pooja stood second and Chandravati & Nirusha came third. The panel of judges for the event comprised of Mr Vinod Ranjan (DPS, Ranchi), Mr Alok Kumar (CCL) and Ms Roshani Chakravorty

Antyakshari for faculty members received tremendous applause. Prof S R Shauq and Prof R K Agrawal won the first prize while Prof S R Roy and Prof Mahua Banerjee were the runners up. The event was anchored by Sanjay Dua and Ankur Chaudhary. Shreya Wali & Anupama (BIT, Mesra), Mona Verma & Devyani (XISS) and Ruma Kunar &Soni (XISS) won first, second and third prize respectively in the Antyakshari event for students.. The last event was selection of Mr and Miss Panache 2007 which ran for several interesting rounds. Manish Thakur was declared Mr Panache while the title of Miss Panache went to Manjita Osta. Ms Namrata Singh and Ms Vandana Gupta were the judges for the event.

Mr Anil Gupta, DGM, State Bank of India gave away the prizes to winners of various events. Fr Beni Ekka thanked all the faculty members and students for making the cultural event a grand success. He also praised the Fest coordinator Prof Sajeet Lakra for all his efforts to make the event unforgettable.
